Rain Gutters
The gutters on a home or commercial building are something that many people don’t think too much about—that is, until something goes wrong. Gutters play a vital role in keeping water away from the foundation of a home or business where it can lead to significant damage to the foundation, and even flooding in severe cases. When they are installed correctly, gutters are something you won’t have to think much about because they effectively do their job to keep water channeled away from homes and buildings. At Siding Systems, Inc. and The Gutter Works, we are experts in gutter installation, gutter repair, and gutter replacement in Salt Lake City.
Residential Gutter Experts
After water falls from the sky—whether it’s in the form of rain, snow, or ice—and lands on the roof of your home or commercial building, it has to go somewhere. Water that cannot be properly diverted out away from a building will end up causing a lot of damage. In most cases your gutters are designed to seamlessly blend in with the building, so you don’t have to think about them (a notable exception is gutters specifically designed for architectural interest, like our copper gutters).
We have been providing gutters to homes and businesses in Salt Lake City for more than 30 years, and our team of gutter experts can help you select the ones that work best for your building or home and your specific needs. We will also help you figure out how many downspouts you need, what size is required based on your home or building roof, and other important features that can save you a lot of trouble later down the road with their ability to handle all your roof drainage requirements.

Rain gutters provide a valuable service by protecting siding surfaces, stucco, windowsills, foundations, decks, and walkways.
Most rain gutters you see installed on Salt Lake City homes are K-style aluminum seamless rain gutters. This is the most cost-effective and best overall choice for rain gutters on most homes. They come in a variety of colors to match aluminum soffit and fascia systems.
Copper rain gutters, both K-styles and half round, are also available. Copper rain gutters can be soldered into one continuous system, which essentially makes them seamless rain gutters. The most popular combination would be a 6” half-round copper rain gutter with 4” smooth round downspouts. Another choice would be 5” K-style copper rain gutters with 3” smooth round downspouts.
Rain gutters in Salt Lake City need to be maintained in order to function properly. Cleaning rain gutters on a regular basis is necessary to keep them from clogging. The best way to solve this problem is to install a Leaf-X gutter protection system over all your rain gutters to protect them and keep them flowing.

Heat Tape
Not all rain gutters need heat tape to keep them flowing in the winter. Rain gutters on the north side, over walkways, and entrances are notorious for freezing during the cold winter months creating dangerous conditions. In our opinion, all copper rain gutters and downspouts need to have heat tape installed.
Commercial heat tape will keep your rain gutters and downspouts functioning through the cold Utah winters.
A lower grade heat tape, or even a commercial heat tape, when installed incorrectly can cause more potential harm that it was meant to prevent.
Heat tape can be installed inside the gutter and downspout, and can also be woven along the roof edge.
One common mistake that we see at The GutterWorks, is installing heat tape in the rain gutter or on the roof, or both, and not installing it in the downspouts. The melt water has nowhere to go except over the top of the gutter, forming dangerous ice…or worse yet, backing up into the house.
Our technicians at Siding Systems, Inc. and The Gutter Works are experts in installing your new rain gutters, determining the correct amount of downspouts, and installing them in the proper location. Additionally, they can advise you on the installation of Leaf-X to prevent debris from clogging your rain gutters, and advising you on the need for heat tape on your home.
